Is social policy your calling? Why UCLan’s online master’s might be made for you

At Applied Worldwide, we believe in a dynamic sociology where sociological knowledge is both produced and applied to enact positive changes in communities throughout the globe. Social policy is an important part of this process.

Unfortunately, many sociology students around the world are challenged to figure out how they can apply sociology in a difference-making career. This is why we are happy to partner with The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and their online, part-time MA Social Policy programme.

Taking on social policy

With the many challenges being faced by the world today – from homelessness and economic crisis, to climate change – the study of social policy has never been more important.

Specialising in social policy can be a deeply rewarding career path. It offers practitioners the opportunity to address social issues and drive change for those that need it the most – whether you choose to work in public services, social welfare provision, academia, or elsewhere.

The UCLan approach

It’s undeniable that finding the time to earn the academic qualification can be difficult for many, due to anything from ongoing personal commitments, long work hours, or even a lack of viable programmes in their region.

UCLan is addressing these issues with their new online, part-time MA Social Policy. Specially designed to offer maximum flexibility, the allows aspiring students around the world to gain an exceptional postgraduate education.

As an online student at UCLan, you can look forward to:

  • Learning from experienced academics through discussions, webinars, and assessments
  • Gaining 1-1 career advice and coaching to make the most of your studies
  • Mastering lifelong learning skills so that you can continue to upskill post-graduation

A course built for you

The two-year programme has been thoughtfully crafted to equip you with an in-depth understanding of how cultural, demographic, economic, governmental, and technological changes impact social policy. As you progress, you can look forward to developing the expertise required to carry out social research informed by debates on methodology, epistemology, ethics, and politics.

Your coursework will consist of an engaging combination of weekly webinars, discussion forums, and learning activities to advance your learning. Of course, you’ll have the freedom to access these at any time (for example, all live webinars are recorded for later viewing) if you prefer a more independent approach to studying.

New to online learning, or higher-level education in general? Don’t worry – you’ll receive the support you need to get up to speed. In addition to a dedicated Student Adviser team to answer any practical questions, UCLan’s Library team is available to provide guidance on how to identify, locate, and use the material available in their online library.

Upon graduating with your MA in Social Policy, you’ll be able to:

  • Demonstrate an expert knowledge of the challenges involved in social policy research
  • Identify, examine, and use research and other material for the analysis of social policy issues
  • Plan, conduct, and report on your own social policy research projects
