Writer’s Update – New Website and Call for Articles

Hello everyone!

This blog provides a quick update about publications on our New Website. You may have noticed that we have been publishing less over the last few weeks. There is a reason for that, so we appreciate your patience.

We are currently working hard to give our website the largest makeover it has received since we started Applied Worldwide. Some of our changes will be noticeable and others will be behind the scenes. The changes we are making are meant to improve the performance of our articles on search engines, provide a better ad experience for readers, and improve page speed for non-US based users.

We plan to roll out our new website in mid-November. In the meantime, however, we will continue to publish at a slower rate than everyone has become accustomed to. With that said, there is content we are looking for specifically for our new website. The following is a call for content we are looking to publish on the new website.

General SEO Articles on our New Website

One thing we are lacking a bit of on our website is general information about sociology and applied sociology. Therefore, we are looking for a few different articles to answer basic questions people may be searching for on the internet. These articles should be well-researched, well-linked, and of interest to a broad audience. The general SEO articles we are talking about may be linked to a lot on our website, so we will be highly selective and may ask for several rounds of revisions. The following are examples of general SEO content we would like to publish.

1) What is Sociology?

We do not currently have an article on our website that simply answers the question, “What is sociology?” There are different web pages around the internet addressing this question, but we want our article to be different in that it addresses how sociology can be practical. If you choose to take on this project, really put yourself in the shoes of someone who would intentionally go to Google and type in “What is sociology?” This might be a high school or college student who is taking their first course. This might be the parent or relative of someone majoring or graduating with a sociology degree. This may also be an employer who is considering employing someone with a sociology degree. Try to think about the information that these people would want to know.

2) What is Applied Sociology?

We also do not have an article that addresses, “What is applied sociology?” Again, there are other websites who address this question, but we think ours can be more comprehensive. We would like to see mention of different language that gets grouped in with the term applied sociology. Some of that language may include, but is not limited to, community-based, community-engaged, public sociology, or clinical sociology. Regardless of the language included, we would like a differentiation of terms with definitions and brief examples. We would also like some history of applied sociology. This history should include prominent figures and must include mention of Lester Frank Ward. Finally, the article should mention professional or career opportunities in sociology. This final point may be a bit tricky because the career examples must be general enough for our global audience. So, country or regional-specific opportunities may not be relatable.

3) Teach Socially

We are always looking for more teaching content. Professors using community engagement as a teaching tool; students taking memorable classes; graduate instructors creating innovative assignments and course designs—these are the types of content we want to continue publishing in the “teach socially” section of our website. Sharing these experiences can help us all improve in our teaching!

4) Graduate School Experiences

We also want to continue publishing the experiences of graduate students in MA or PhD programs. In particular, we are interested in the experiences of graduate students who are looking to gain training for careers in applied sociology. We understand that some may have positive experiences and others may struggle to find the support and resources they are seeking. In either case, these stories and experiences are valuable and we hope to continue gathering them for publication on the new website.
